Letter Two Final
Marlen,
Humanities Literature was an enjoyable class for me the second time around. I am wishing I could take you for the 202 class, but have already got it under my belt. Your class has been and experience for me that I can say I came out it will valuable knowledge that I will keep and use for the rest of my life. T his class was no ordinary humanities class and that’s what made it great. With the work load that was given to use, you made the class exciting and enjoyable to come to at eight o’clock in the morning. If it where up to me and you were able to teach every subject and have a class for each I would take you as my professor every time. I am sorry that this semester has come to an end this fast and I was unable to experience your class more and learn a little bit more.
Though your class is great and the work load is more than most expected classes, I will suggest to you some areas that I found uninteresting to me and that I enjoyed the least. The first suggestion comes from the reading. I enjoyed reading most of the book assigned, but questionable about two of them. Watership Down and Middlesex I thought were uninteresting, but I see the content used for Middlesex. You bring the information of the mono myth of the hero across so clearly and thoroughly that I believe that you do not need Watership Down. The Odyssey and Sidartha were the most interesting to be because the reader read about history with the understanding of the hero’s journey. These two books cover two subjects in one category. They covered the history believe and past down from generation to generation and gave perfect examples of the hero’s journey. Also with the deletion of this book, you will have more time to explain and discuss Joseph Campbell. I wanted to examine his thought a little further and get his perspective on the hero’s journey and the mono myth through lives. These are the only suggestions I have to make to you regarding the humanities literature class.
It is unfortunate that the semester ended so fast. If I could I would extend it in order to learn more. I have come out of your class remaining the knowledge that I learned in it. This to me was a better experience in which college material was learned and remembered.
At the beginning of this course I examined the work load that had to be done and I admit I was looking for the easy class that I did not have to do much to pass, and this was not it. With the work load expected the class still remained quite interesting. I was skeptical at first on whether I wanted to stay in the class and push myself. I chose the answer of staying and pushing myself to do the work and attend the eight o’clock sessions. What hocked me about this class in the beginning was the discussion of Greek and Roman Myths and the book of the Odyssey. Since I enjoy the history of these countries I decided to stay and learn more about their histories.
I will miss this class and I hope that I will have another class like, which is highly doubted because I will not have you teaching it. The class was and experience for me and I do not regret taking it in the least bit.
Sincerely,
Lyndsay Bowers
